We’re very proud to be able to report that three of our first Lab pups have been:
Raised successfully;
Accepted into the Justice Department’s elite canine explosive detection program run by their Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms in Front Royal, VA, and
Are now serving the country (and 2 of our allies)in amazingly distinguished capacities.
------------------------------
The following two pups were raised by our dedicated host families in Arizona and Montana.
These pups were accepted into the arson dog program sponsored by State Farm Insurance, and trained by Maine Specialty Dogs, which for over 25 years has been the preeminent canine arson detection training facility in the country.
-------------------------------
Finally, our New York pup is on his way to becoming one of the most superlative therapy dogs in the country.
"Stryker"
Sponsored by the State Department, he is now serving as a member of the Jordanian Royal Guard providing security for the King and Queen of Jordan, the royal family, and visiting U.S. dignitaries.
Raised by the Chaves family in Fairbanks, Alaska. Daughter Sydney, an 8th grader took on the primary responsibility of raising “Stryker” as her year-long community service project.
He was named in honor of the famed “Stryker Battalion” at Fort Wainwright which is located in Fairbanks.
"Indie"
Also sponsored by the State Department, she is now serving with the Mexican Federal Police in Mexico City, and is stationed primarily at our U.S. Embassy there.
She was raised by an amazing host family in McLean, Virginia. Their 12 year old son incorporated “Indie’s” training as the service component needed to complete the requirements for his Bar Mitzvah.
She was named “Independence” after a vote on names by the students of the family’s elementary school in McLean.
"Seamus"
He is now proudly serving with the U. S. Marshal’s Service and will be based in Chicago, Illinois.
He came to us as a 12 week old pup from an FBI family who wanted to see him serve the country. He was also raised by our McLean, Virginia host family who wanted to go above and beyond the call of duty and raise a second DenimCross pup.
In keeping with the Irish heritage of his FBI family, they decided to give him a distinctly Irish name, and “Seamus” is one that actually has ancient
Celtic origins dating back to 300 BC.
"Zonie"
She has just graduated from the State Farm canine arson detection program and she and her handler will be based in the Chicago area.
She was raised by a wonderfully caring retired couple in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. She also was evaluated and qualified originally as an explosive detection dog. However, circumstances enabled her to become our very first dog to be accepted into the State Farm arson detection program.
Her host family thought that the very first DenimCross pup to grow up in Arizona should have the appropriate name "Zonie".
"Tana"
She too has just graduated from the State Farm canine arson detection program and she and her handler will be based in Topeka, Kansas and will have responsibility for the entire State of Kansas.
She was raised by our Montana host family, a husband and wife both members of the Air Force at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, MT. Her "Dad" is an Air Force firefighter, so it's particularly appropriate that she will be pursuing a fire related career. And her "Mom" has an equally important position as a "missileer" at Malmstrom.
And because of her Montana upbringing, the name "Tana" was chosen for her.
"Hudson"
Because of his wonderfully gentle disposition and charming personality, “Hudson” is now in training as a therapy dog.
But as befits his homeland security roots, “Hudson” is also pursuing a parallel therapy career as a certified “Crisis Response Dog”.
As a key member of the elite National Animal Assisted Crisis Response Team (only 45 teams in the entire U.S.), he will be receiving assignments and responding to natural disasters and/or terroristic catastrophes wherever they may occur around the country and around the world.
His role here is to provide stress relief, comfort and assistance to First Responders, Homeland Security, and FEMA personnel engaged in emergency services at those sites.
